Good Governance
Somalia begins a fresh start and far-reaching phase of its democratic transition. Our aspiration for a united, inclusive, democratic and prosperous society, as the strategic focus of the democratic revolution. That vision, inscribed in our constitution inspires freedom and democracy. This vision is to be the heart beat of our constitutional democracy as we move forward. It is to be the guiding star of our programme to reconstruct and develop our country after years of disunity.
Economic Development
Our Governance Plan aims to eradicate poverty, increase employment and reduce inequality by 2030. It lays the foundation for long-term planning for this radical socio-economic agenda over the next 20 years. Its implementation will be a people driven process to which everyone is able to contribute. Where appropriate, the plan will be adapted to meet changing conditions and incorporate key learnings and unlearnings.
Community Development
Our quest to restore our people’s dignity based on one-person, one-vote will bring about a government based on the will of the people. The challenges still facing our country are immense. Poverty, inequality and unemployment still affect the lives of many people. Packets of disunity continues to erode our social fabric and undermine our development efforts. Our economy continues to feel the effects of the turmoil we have we are boldly walking out of, making our goals all the harder to reach.
Environment & Natural Resources
Somalia is rich in environmental and natural resources, including land, soil, water, forests, the atmosphere, climate, wind, sound, biological materials such as plants and animals, as well as social factors such as aesthetics. The Somalia economy relies heavily on natural resources in terms of people’s livelihoods and as a contribution to the national income. SSUP envisions a state with a healthy and well managed environment that is productive and sustainable.
Economic infrastructure
Infrastructure is an issue of overriding importance to development. Having a good national infrastructure network is crucial for raising agricultural productivity, industrial production, natural resources development, capital investment, private sector growth, human resources development, and poverty reduction. SSUP envisions a nation with an advanced infrastructure network that facilitates economic and social development. In this vision, the SSUP Government will have an infrastructure policy which provides for sustainable world-class transformative infrastructure and services. The Mission is to ‘provide an efficient, affordable, cost-effective and reliable transformative infrastructure for sustainable economic growth and development, through construction, modernization, rehabilitation and effective management of infrastructure and services.
